Chelsea confirm Enzo Fernandez has undergone groin surgery and will miss rest of the season

Chelsea has issued a statement announcing that Enzo Fernandez has undergone surgery for a groin problem and will be out for the remainder of the season.

The 23-year-old has reportedly been managing the issue for approximately five months, resorting to pain-killing injections before matches.

Despite playing through the discomfort, Fernandez has been a consistent presence in Chelsea’s midfield, featuring in 40 games across all competitions this season, contributing seven goals and three assists.

In a statement released on Thursday evening, Chelsea confirmed that the World Cup winner, Enzo Fernandez, has undergone successful surgery for a groin issue. The surgery will sideline the 23-year-old midfielder for the remainder of Chelsea’s 2023/24 season.

The statement further mentioned that Fernandez will commence rehabilitation under the guidance of the club’s medical department at Cobham.

Mauricio Pochettino has deployed Fernandez in various midfield positions, including as a number ten, in addition to his preferred deeper role.

As Fernandez recuperates, his teammates will strive to clinch European football next season. Currently, Chelsea sits ninth in the table, trailing Newcastle by three points in seventh place and Manchester United by six points in sixth, although they have a game in hand over their rivals.
