Chelsea ‘set to sell’ two star players during summer transfer window in bid to comply with FFP

Chelsea is rumored to be considering the sale of two key players during the upcoming summer transfer window to adhere to Financial Fair Play regulations.

Since 2022, the Clearlake Capital consortium, led by Todd Boehly, has invested a significant £1 billion in acquiring new players, including Marc Cucurella, Enzo Fernandez, Moises Caicedo, and Raheem Sterling, for substantial sums.

Chelsea’s performance on the field has been disappointing, with the team currently occupying the 11th spot in the Premier League table following a 2-2 draw against Burnley.

Looking ahead to the summer transfer window, there are concerns about Chelsea potentially violating the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules. Everton and Nottingham Forest have already faced consequences for this, receiving point deductions this season.

According to The Sunday Times, Chelsea may list both captain Reece James and midfielder Conor Gallagher for transfer. It’s estimated that their sales could generate up to £100 million in additional revenue.

Reece James has been a crucial part of Chelsea’s squad in recent years but has faced limited playing time due to various injuries this season. He underwent surgery in December and resumed training at the beginning of the month.

Mauricio Pochettino expressed disappointment after the draw with Burnley, emphasizing the team’s lack of energy, hunger, and defensive solidity required to compete in the Premier League. He highlighted the need for the team to become stronger collectively and evolve in key areas.

Despite some positive aspects of the performance, particularly in attack, Pochettino stressed the importance of maintaining energy levels both on and off the ball.
